How to Read Your Kundli in 5 Easy Steps

Before you start

You need your kundli in front of you. If you don't have one, make it free on Trunaksh with your date, time and place of birth. Then follow these five steps.

Step 1: Find your lagna

Your lagna is your rising sign. It is the sign that was coming up in the east when you were born. It sits in your 1st house.

Your lagna shows how people see you, your body and how you start things. Someone with a Mesh (Aries) lagna often comes across as quick and bold. Someone with a Tula (Libra) lagna often comes across as polite and fair.

Step 2: Find your rashi

Your rashi is your Moon sign. It shows your mind, your feelings and what you need to feel okay.

Your lagna is the outside. Your rashi is the inside. If they are very different, people may not see how you really feel. That is useful to know about yourself.

Step 3: Find your nakshatra

Your nakshatra is the exact star group the Moon was in. There are 27. It adds detail to your rashi, and it decides where your dasha starts.

Step 4: Look at the busy houses

Now look at your chart and find the houses that have planets in them. A house with two or more planets is a busy part of your life. You will spend a lot of time and thought there.

7th: marriage
10th: career
11th: gains and friends

An empty house is normal. It is run by its lord, the planet that owns that sign.

Step 5: Check your current dasha

Your dasha tells you which chapter of life you are in right now, and which planet runs it. Open the Timing page on Trunaksh to see your current chapter, how long it lasts, and what comes next.

A few things to remember

No chart is good or bad. Every kundli has easy parts and hard parts.
The ℞ sign means retrograde. It means the planet looked like it was moving backwards from Earth. Its results often come slowly, but they last.
Don't panic about Saturn or Rahu. They ask for patience and honest effort. They don't decide your life.
Check your birth time. If the time is wrong, your lagna and houses may be wrong too. Your birth certificate is the best place to find it.
